Biafo Hisper is two different names of glaciers found in the Karakorum.
Together with Biafo (65km) and Hisper (49km) becomes the longest glacier (114km)
after the Siachen (74km) longest out side the Polar Regions. Baltistan and Hunza,
the two great regions have been connected through this historical route over
centuries, both in culture and trade before the present glaciers formed. It is also
said that once a princess from Baltistan got married to a Mir of Hunza some 800 years
ago and used the same route to enter Hunza. Later Tibetan architects to avoid the princess
from homesickness built Baltit fort there. Making a trip through this legendary pass lets
you understand a pre-glacier map as well as to explore the present culture and a close
view of the life of the people living both sides of the pass, Baltistan and Nagyer (Hunza).
The trek requires the same number of days and physical fitness as for Baltoro.
It can be done from both sides, but experts suggest starting from Askole because of
the gradually ascending and scaling the altitude. This remarkable route is famous for
also watching wild life, the last generation of the Himalayan red bears still could be
seen during on trek. The famous Snow Lake with millions of tons of snow stand to wonder you
before the pass. More than a dozen 7000m peaks tower above these glaciers and the Biafo’s
granite spires, Lukpe Lago (6593m), Lukpe Brakk (6029m), Bentha Brakk/the Ogre Thumb
(7285m) and the Latok –1 ( 7146mt ) form a magnificent cathedral of mountain architecture.
Balti villagers use the lower pastures from Biafo side and Brushiski –speaking Nagyer people
use the same from Hisper side. The upper ablation valleys and meadows which are throughout
filled by mountain flowers are unused except by wild life. One should be aware of the brown
bears appearing and raiding campsites as often by ibexes and eagles.
Biafo Hisper give more opportunities to walk over white glacier rather than walking
on the stone boulders in Baltoro and Batura glaciers of the great Karakorum Range.
Camping sites are much clean and fresh drinking water available just to fetch up in a
bottle, as the route is less crowded. Unique to camp on grassy slopes after walking
the day on white glaciers. Lofty peaks, charming streams, and stunning glaciers making
your every moment picturesque and pleasant.
Things are beautiful to see and explore, beauties of nature remain dancing round the year,
We welcome all your itineraries but for a while please be heard if you have done Baltoro
in the past and look for another trip, never take time selecting Biafo Hisper making your
destination for this time.
