Hunza is the pride of tourism industry in Pakistan. The valley requires not
much introduction as it has been recognized throughout the world as a first class
tourist destination. Over centuries Hunza hosted thousands of tourist and caravans
as the historical Silk Route passed through the valley. After the construction of
KKH over the famous Khunjerab Pass to China was completed in 1976, more tourists
approached around Hunza.
Why tourist prefers to see Hunza? This question will need more space to answer, as
there are unlimited choices to refer and explain. Shortly, Hunza is the name of small
and bigger towns and villages surrounded by a number of high (above 7000mt) snow clad
mountains. Terraced fields and fruit trees, Hunza spring (blossom) and Hunza autumn turns
one’s imagination of journeys. During summer dozen of pastures are available for excursion
walks, glaciers are approachable for trekking and base-camps clear to pitch up tents for
mountaineering expeditions. Shimshal, Nager and Batura refer unmatched preference to trekkers
and mountaineers.
Rather than the other parts of Northern Areas, Hunza is much more easily approachable
by road and air. From Gilgit, it is only 2 hours driving to Karim Abad (central Hunza)
where the tourist comes first and plans the rest, staying in a hotel, sipping a cup of
tea or coffee together having unbelievable views of peaks, such as Rakaposhi, Diran, Spantik,
Ultar and Lady Fingers, all of them above 7000mts. The view of Hunza finds beyond imaginations
when someone gets on the terrace of Baltit Fort. It is said that Balti artisans built
the fort some 700 years ago when a princess from Baltistan got married to the Mir of Hunza.
The Agha Khan Foundation restored the condition and opened it for public and tourist.
There are antiques of Hunza as well displayed to the visitors to understand the
difference between the past and the present.
Not all that everything is available in Hunza; trekking routes over famous passes
to the neighboring valleys more enhance the importance of beautiful Hunza valley.
It’s either Hisper pass to Baltistan or Broghil pass to Chitral via Wakhan corridor,
or to Ghizer via chellengi pass, everywhere wonderful ever scene views and ever had experience.
